We are working with a reputable and growing general contractor that specializes in retail construction and is seeking an experienced Traveling Superintendent to support projects across multiple states. This role is ideal for a superintendent who enjoys travel, fast-paced projects, and consistent work with repeat retail clients.
The Role
As a Traveling Superintendent, you will be responsible for overseeing on-site construction activities from start to finish, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards. Projects will primarily consist of retail rollouts, ground-up retail, and interior build-outs.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day on-site construction operations for retail projects nationwide
- Manage subcontractors, vendors, and on-site labor
- Enforce safety programs and ensure compliance with OSHA and company standards
- Maintain project schedules and coordinate sequencing of trades
- Conduct daily site meetings, inspections, and quality control reviews
- Coordinate closely with project managers and clients to resolve field issues
- Review drawings, specifications, and scopes to ensure accurate execution
- Oversee punch lists, inspections, and project closeout
Project Experience
Typical projects include:
- Big-box and national retail rollouts
- Grocery, convenience store, and retail pad sites
- Interior retail build-outs and remodels
- Ground-up retail developments
Ideal Background
- 7–15+ years of experience as a Superintendent with a commercial or retail-focused contractor
- Strong retail construction background with multi-site or rollout experience
- Proven ability to manage fast-track schedules and tight deadlines
- Comfortable traveling extensively and working away from home
- Strong understanding of construction means and methods
- Ability to lead field teams and coordinate multiple trades
- OSHA certification preferred
