Chief Estimator

We've partnered with a leading Columbus-based general contractor seeking an experienced Chief Estimator to lead their preconstruction and estimating team. This is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing all conceptual estimating, cost analysis, bid strategy, and early project planning for large-scale commercial construction projects.

The ideal candidate will bring deep estimating experience, strong leadership capability, and the ability to drive accurate, competitive, and high-quality estimates across a diverse project portfolio.

The client open to candidate relocation to Columbus, OH and there is a generous relocation package offered.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all conceptual and schematic estimating efforts from $5M to $200M+

• Oversee the full preconstruction/estimating department, including training and mentoring junior estimators

• Develop detailed cost models, budgets, and bid strategies

• Evaluate drawings, specifications, and subcontractor scopes for accuracy and risk

• Build and maintain subcontractor relationships across the Midwest

• Participate in value engineering, constructability reviews, and project buy-in with operations teams

• Collaborate closely with leadership, operations, and clients to forecast costs and support strategic growth

Required Experience

• 10+ years estimating experience with a general contractor

• Strong background in conceptual estimating and early budgeting

• Experience estimating commercial, institutional, education, healthcare, or mixed-use projects

• Proven history leading or mentoring estimating teams

• Strong analytical skills with cost modeling, historical cost tracking, and unit pricing

• Proficiency with modern estimating software (OST, Bluebeam, ProEst, Sage, etc.
